Founded in 1895, the Journal de la Société des américanistes is a scientific journal of international renown which has published, without any interruption other than those due to the two world wars, an irreplaceable sum of French and foreign works.

The Journal de la Société des américanistes is one of the only journals in the world to be devoted to Amerindian societies and cultures considered through their entire history, that is, from their origins to the present day. The originality and richness of the journal lies in its disciplinary openness, which brings together prehistory, archaeology, ethnology, history, linguistics, and sociology. The same spirit of openness can be observed with regard to the languages accepted by the journal: French, English, Spanish, Portuguese, even German and Italian, in addition, of course, to the Amerindian languages themselves. The Journal de la Société des américanistes founds its natural audience among all anthropologists in the broadest sense of the word who, from students to specialists, work on the Indian Americas.
